About

Hi and welcome to Allergyummy. My name is Oana, and I am a mom of four and the wife of an amazing, hard-working husband.

I create healthy, clean, allergy-friendly and child-friendly recipes and cook( 3 times a day, I really need to start meal prep)meals that are gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, peanut-free and cashew-free while trying to keep them delicious, easy, healthy and affordable.

I also homeschool the older two children, while the younger two are trying to sabotage my plans.

I believe food can be medicine and nutrition is at the core of a healthy body and mind.

I believe in a Creator that loves us so much that he became one of us, suffered and died for us, so we can forever be with Him.

I believe Earth was a gift for us to enjoy and take care off, so we are trying our best to live a sustainable life, by recycling, using reusable grocery bags (when I can remember, which is like never), choosing fresh vegetables and fruit over pre-packed food when possible.

I am also a wannabe minimalist, learning every-day that less is almost always more.

I wasn’t like this all my life. I grew up in Romania and about 13 years ago I moved to the US to follow the love of my life. I grew up being a picky eater, a habit that followed me into adulthood.

I also didn’t understand why my mom had to cook these hard elaborate meals when I was completely happy with some fresh bread and jam.

After moving to the US, I was excited about the convenience of the variety pre-packed, pre-cooked foods, that were easy to cook (frozen lasagna I think was a staple for the first years of our marriage). I was never going to be like my mom and spend my whole day in the kitchen.

About 8 years ago when our infant son started developing severe eczema on his face and body, everything changed. He was diagnosed with several food allergies(see above the list), and several environmental ones.

I call his allergies now, a blessing in disguise. Even though life with allergies is a hard one, if it wasn’t for my son’s condition we would have never find out about our own sensitivities and allergies, or the healing power of the whole foods of the Earth.

Through constant research we learned that nutrition is only a part to a healthy body and mind. Minimizing chemical exposure by using more natural and greener household and body products, minimizing stress, sleeping enough, and having a healthy social and spiritual life are all important components to a healthy lifestyle.

I hope you feel at home at Allergyummy and find support, encouragement, and enough information to help you find balance and peace and help you live a healthier life.
